Here are some comments that we have received so far:
“I’ve been working in community safety for over 20 years and this document has taught me a lot that I just didn’t know. I’ve now reflected that many of the campaigns I’ve been involved with, whilst they had the best intentions, they just didn’t communicate the messages that individuals need and some of them definitely put the responsibility on ‘not being raped’ with women. Can I send this to our communications officer as a reference tool for future campaigns?”
“This shouldn’t just be for communications professionals though, right? I’m not a communications professional and there is so much in here that will help me to do my job“
“As a public sector professional but also a survivor of sexual abuse I found this a really compassionate read. I could tell the people who wrote it really care”.
“As a survivor I loved the trigger warnings throughout as it gave me the opportunity to choose what to read, and to prepare myself for it when I did”
“After reading this website, looking back at some of the work I’ve delivered, I can see now that certain elements of it would have been really triggering and some of it definitely encouraged individuals to ‘not make themselves vulnerable’ to being raped or sexually assaulted. I think because this issue is so ‘dark’ and so abhorrent, I thought our communications should reflect that in tone. The level of insight in this document has completely changed my perspective on how to communicate about sexual harm”
“I think this is a brilliant document. I found it informative and thought provoking but also incredibly helpful”
